The YALI RLC Alumni in Nigeria, held a Grant Writing Workshop on the 27th of March 2021.

Summary Statement shared on all platforms by the Chapter’s Communications Chair, Wofai Samuel, stated thus:

Aim of the workshop:

To teach YALI RLC Nigeria members on how to write award-winning Grant applications. This is because this period, from January until present, has seen an avalanche of social development Grant schemes and competitions being released.

Our Guest Speakers:

We were honored to have guest speakers who you could say have expertise in the area.

The first guest speaker, Mr. Diran Adegoke, is the MWF/YALI Program Coordinator at the U.S. Embassy. He spoke about Grants especially those offered by the U.S Embassy and which is currently receiving applications. His presentation was very eye opening especially as regards pitfalls to avoid and understanding better what the U.S Embassy is looking for when they put out such Grant calls.

The second Guest Speaker, Mr. Patrick Simon Obi, comes with a wealth of experience in winning grants. He is a safety advocate and one of the key players in the social development space when it comes to road safety issues in the country. He also happens to be an RLC alumni. He shared his experiences on winning grants, both as an individual and later on as a registered organization. His story served as a huge encouragement to Alumni members that they can also set themselves apart in the social development space like Mr. Obi has.

Attendance:

Given COVID-19 restrictions, we could not have more than 25–30 people at the venue.

25 people (inclusive of the Guest Speakers) were in attendance. Out of that number, 18 were RLC Alumni members while 5 were non-Alumni members.

All COVID-19 Protocols were adhered to during the event.

Duration:

The event started at 10.30a.m. and ended at 1.45p.m.

Gratitude:

We are grateful to the following individuals and organizations for making the event a reality and success:

1. The American Corner

2. The American Embassy (and Mr. Diran Adegoke)

3. Mr. Simon Patrick Obi

4. The RLC Office in Ghana

5. The Executive Council, Specially, Hammed Rauf, Oge God’sglory Ifezue, Obasanjo Fajemirokun, Temitayo Olatunde, Mayokun Adeoti to name a few.

Yours Faithfully,

Wofai Samuel — Communications Chair,
