YALI RLC Nigeria Alumni trains over 250 members on grant writing
The Young African Leadership Initiative, Regional Leadership Center, Nigeria alumni has trained more than 250 members on grant application writing.
The training which was held virtually on whatsapp yesterday, 20th March, 2020, had no fewer than 250 participants.
The trainer, Tunde Omotoye who is currently a Senior Business Operations Analyst in Canada, taught the participants the various steps involved in grant writing. He said it is important for grant writers to identify the problem that needs funding and also they should go through the grant and study it.
He said, “This is very important as it helps you understand properly what your grantor actually needs. It also gives you the opportunity to look for the necessary documents needed to support your grant application, if you have questions to ask the grantor.
Understand the grant application, prepare a summary statement which you can also use as the abstract of your grant proposal which will contain a brief explanation of your organization, your project and what you intend to achieve. Also, it should include the amount you need and how you are going to use it. Make sure you prepare an outline wherein all the steps of your proposal would be included”
Omotoye added that there must be a cover letter that will make the grantor create a picture of the proposal. He further described Executive summary, Needs statement, Goal and Objectives, Program Design, Evaluation Section, Sustainability, Brief about organization, Project Budget and Finalization as the other important steps involved in the process of grant writing.
He however recommended grammarly software to help remove any grammatical errors in the proposal. The trainer urged the participants to do follow-up so as to ensure that the grantor received their application.
“Don’t rush in making the follow up, wait for at least a week/two before reaching the grantor. In most cases, they would have a timeline on when they’d get back to successful applicants.” — he said.
Some of the participants expressed their gratitude over the successful masterclass. Adefusi Richard said he can now apply for grants without fear of rejection based on what he learnt during the masterclass. Another participant, Inemesit Hanson appreciated the trainer for sharing his vast knowledge with them.
Meanwhile, the Events Chair of the association, Mary Ogundimu appreciated the trainer and the participants.
