The Young African Leadership Initiative, Regional Leadership Center, Nigeria Alumni held a masterclass on Business Strategy.

The masterclass was held on Tuesday 18 February, 2020 and started exactly 7 pm. It was held on the official facebook page of the alumni chapter.

The Guest Speaker, Mr Gideon Ekanem who is a UNIDO partner and the founder of CASSE Africa, spoke on Branding for fundraising and marketing. He said the way entrepreneurs can identify their business unique value, is by engaging with customers, do customer reviews which must be honest.

Ekanem noted that in marketing business, entrepreneurs must know everything about the features of the product or service. Adding that the prices of products won’t matter to customers largely because it’s the power of effective branding that will be speaking.

He said, “When growing an effective brand, the prices of your product won’t matter to customers largely because it’s the power of your brand that will be speaking.

“Investors will be super excited to provide funding because you have a strong brand.

“When you grow your brand, equity funding is easier to access because you’ll be talking numbers, traction, track records with undeniable proofs.
Everyone wants to invest in a credible venture even if it’s a grant.”

The convener of YESS conference however quoted Professor Keller of Dartmouth College to conclusively reveal the benefits of branding.

“Be perceived differently and produce different interpretations of product performance;
Enjoy greater loyalty and be less vulnerable to competitive marketing actions; Command larger margins and have more inelastic responses to price increases and elastic responses to price decreases; Receive greater trade cooperation and support; Increase marketing communication effectiveness; Yield licensing opportunities; Support brand extensions” — Ekanem said.

Meanwhile, the Event Chair of YALI RLC Nigeria Alumni, Mary Ogundimu who spoke with the media, thanked the guest speaker and the participants for participating in the masterclass which lasted for hours. She further encouraged those who missed the masterclass, to attend the next one which will be better than the former. Mary added that the date and medium of the next masterclass would be officially communicated soon.
