International Youth Day 2022

On 12th August 2022, YALI RLC Alumni Nigeria organized International Youth Day event which held at two different (2 ) locations respectively; Barrack Obama American corner Victoria Island, Lagos, American Space, Wise Zone 4, Abuja. American Corner, Abuja and Twitter handle on the 13th of August, 2022 with the topic The Roles of Youths in Building an Inclusive World . The theme for this year International youth day: Intergenerational solidarity: Creating a word for all ages was extensively discussed among notable speakers and on panel.

In Abuja, The event was divided into 3 sessions as follows; 1st Session — Theme Session/Speech and Presentations. The Theme Speech was given by Mayokun Adeoti, 2022 National President, YALI RLC Nigeria. In his speech, he gave the definition of Intergenerational Solidarity as the degree of closeness and support between different generations, importance of Intergenerational Solidarity, and gave ample tips on how it can be encouraged in the society today. Finally, he made a call on all and sundry, young and old, from all races, genders, creeds and orientations to join hands together to Build a World for All Ages Through Intergenerational Solidarity.

This was followed by Speeches and Presentation by 2 Past National Presidents of the Association, Dorcas Adesola Bello, 2018 National President, and Aisha Bubah, 2019 National President. The event had in attendance 48 persons in Lagos and 42 participants graced the event in Abuja. Representatives and members of different US Government Exchange alumni groups, such as TechWomen Alumni Nigeria, Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Alumni Nigeria (HHHF), Academy for Women Entrepreneurs (AWE), International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP), Mandela Washinton Fellowship Association Alumni of Nigeria (MWFAAN) and other organizations like Strategy and Innovation for Development (SI4DEV), NASFAT, Lions Club etc. These organizations also supported the event in cash and kind.

In Lagos, there was an interactive sessions among the youths, the guest speakers and the panelists . Mr. Mike Okwuche who is the National president, USGEAA gave proper introduction of the theme and encouraged participants to continue to contribute to the development of their communities for a sustainable world.

This was followed by the presentation of the theme proper by Dr. Jude Ememe of Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Alumni Nigeria (HHHF) who gave extensive speech about the theme and advised young people to always avail themselves where critical issues to improve their personal development is being addressed and take utmost opportunity to change the narrative.

Mr. Austin Emeanua who is the YALI coordinator at US consulate Lagos gave goodwill messages about YALI and shared numerous opportunities that young people can use to leverage their potential.

There was two ( 2 ) panel discussion, this was moderated by Mr. Emediong Akpabio, it was centered on Lifelong Learning, Volunteering, and Mentoring Program as Tools for Intergenerational Partnerships and collaborations and the panelists were: Dr. Jude Ememe (HHHF), Mr. Mike Okwuche (IVLP/USGEAA), Ruhama Ifere (RLC), Ahmed Adetola-Kazeem (MWF president), Paul Andrew (YALI NETWORK LAGOS).

The second panel discussion was moderated by Ms. Grace Anuforo. The topic was centered on Youngs Leaders in a New World: Challenges and Opportunities for Building Enduring Legacies. The topic was discussed by invited panelists and they were: Toluse Dove Francis (RLC), Ojuse Omotayo (RLC), Rofiat Atanda (EU Alumni), Victor Okechukwu (RLC).
