Farewell Speech by The Secretary — YALI RLC Alumni in Nigeria, Oge Ifezue
‘All good things will one day come to an end’.
It is kind of hard to come to the realization that just like yesterday, one year has come to an end.
I recall the election victory that brought me to office vividly as if it were yesterday. When I ran for the position of the National Secretary, our Cohort had just graduated from the RLC program earlier in September/October 2020, few months before the elections.
When I ran, I decided to ‘try my luck’, as they say.
I was thus pleasantly surprised when I received the vote of the majority that they had confidence in me to deliver on the job.
That confidence truly boosted my confidence and was the driving force behind my work as an executive committee member.
All the time I had to take any action I always had to remember that I was not working for myself but for those who put me in office. And thus their interests more than mine must always take the front burner.
I want to thank the Alumni members for reposing their trust and confidence in me and the team for this 1 year of service. I am deeply grateful to everyone for giving me the chance to learn leadership in practical terms and to grow exponentially in this 1 year.
I learnt the value of teamwork in this 1 year.
I as well learnt the value to always let integrity prevail at the end of the day and speaking the truth even if it may not be comfortable for the majority or well received, because posterity is more important that cheap popularity.
To my fellow executive members, it has been an honor serving alongside all of you in this 1 year and I am hopeful that this is not farewell but parting office to continue working together outside office on other ventures.
To all Alumni members thank you all very much once again and I wish every one of us a wonderful 2022 ahead.
