Blessing NWODO
Blessing is an online Cohort 10 Alumna, a creative writer and an incorrigible feminist. She is leading the movement #PopularizeFemaleInventors in Nigeria. With the assistance of volunteers and donors, she produced 1000 copies of posters with 48 female inventors and distributed it to different schools in various states in the country, to inspire young females to create despite limitations.
She served as a student facilitator for Purple, a Ukaid initiative for gender equality and for her service was awarded the most inspirational, influential and innovative female 2017.
After serving as club service director and secretary, she was awarded the most diplomatic female and most dedicated rotaractor by the Rotaract club, a subsidiary of Rotary International. She was a campus ambassador for Unilever from 2016 - 2017. She also served as the secretary of the SDG group Aba North, Abia state.
She led an online movement in 2017 with the hashtag #WomenAreTheirBestSupporters to combat the idea that women hate each other naturally. She also speaks in radio stations and schools about waste management/climate change and gender equality.
As a creative writer, she merited the award “Best Female Writer” in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Her short story “Vaginismus” was featured in Erotic Africa: The Sex Anthology by Brittle Paper and she was awarded the Highly Rated prize in the Nigerian Travel Story competition organized by Travel Next Door in 2016. Her essay, “The gendered double standard of adultery in Nigeria” was published by Women's Media Centre (FBOMB) and she has also been published on Kalahari Review, The Common, Naija Stories, 100 words Africa, Lion spot and the Rota-Lion magazine.
