ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT
Petra Ogheneyerhowo Akpoviro
Petra is Cohort 10 Alumna, a Ph.D student in the department of Botany and specializes in Lower Green Plants and Environmental Pollution Monitoring, a scholar and an alumnus of the Association of Commonwealth Universities Summer School, with interest on the role of Universities on the Sustainable Development Goals.
She is the Secretary of the Association of Orphans and Vulnerable Children NGO’s in Nigeria, Oyo state chapter and a member of State Steering Committee on Child Labour-working on the elimination of worst form of Child labour.
She advocates under Partnership for advocacy in Child and Family Health (PACFAH) Oyo state chapter, Nigeria. The team engages traditional rulers, religious leaders and legislators to influence government to increase budgetary allocation on maternal and child health. The team addresses issues on gaps in policy, budget and administrative frameworks, in order to enhance child and maternal health especially in underserved communities.
The project focuses on four key issues: child hood killer diseases-Pneumonia and Diarrhea, routine immunization, nutrition and child spacing. She has also coordinated project on Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV/AIDS in Oyo state Nigeria. She is the Program Director at the Centre for Youth Family and The Law.
